Timeless Beauties

Beauty in the form of Hand Painted Brooches...

There's just something about the look of the hand painted brooch. I don't know what it is...perhaps the romance of the idea of its making and wearing. Can you picture one of these worn on the dress of a young woman, perhaps on a Sunday for Church? The eyes would immediately be drawn to the beauty of the piece. Perhaps the wearer was also the artist.
Oh, if I could only paint like that! I'd love to learn that art...painting beautiful china and jewelry.
Almost a lost art.

These are a few mosaics I've made of past posts. If you'd like to see the larger versions, please see my older posts for July.
I'm joining up with a few parties for Monday. Be sure and check them out to see all the beautiful blogs out there!!!

Precious Keepsakes from a Lovely Lady

What a lovely collection of pretties I found...and they are very special to me because of the sweet owner who has now passed away. Gentle, kind, loving, and fun, all describe the personality of the lady who owned these beautiful pieces.
A whole community showed much respect at her funeral. She was much loved by all.

My lighting is off and for that I apologize. I can't seem to get good shots tonight.
But, I hope you can all see the items close enough to appreciate the delicate beauty.

I decided to use the collection of 3 pastel shaded books I found recently, and I think if I were better at taking pictures I'd have some nicer shots!!
I tried to get the purple rhinestones in the brooch with the 2 loops to show up. Also the bow tie brooch with the blue stone...those are my favorite pieces.
2 silver necklaces, one an opal, and another a tiny bit of diamond are just precious.

I also used a doily I made for my mother, and now have back as part of the vignette.
It is pastel colored and I tatted it.

This set (below) of rose earrings are so sweet, I just had to have them too...

I hope it's not too late to link up with Cindy over at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday!
Please hop over and check out the participants..they have some wonderful things to show you!
Have a great weekend!

Pearls and Lace Thursday #10

Pearls and Lace Thursday #10
The beauty of glass and pearls, old lace and hand painted china.
Why does the word 'vintage' just make my heart beat faster??

The picture below is from one of the little books I bought last weekend...
The little girl is sitting at a table and the inscription of the print is:
"You have curious things to eat",
a line from a poem in the Poems book.
I remember 'curious' things put in front of me as a child...and I probably didn't touch them!
I was what my parents called a 'picky' eater.
Still am!!

The pink brooch was a garage sale find about a month ago, and it now sits with this glass dresser set in my bathroom window, looking beautiful on a hand crocheted doily alongside the glass pearls. So Victorian and Vintage!!

Thank you for visiting me here today for Pearls and Lace #10!!
Please feel free to join me here by adding the url address of your blog post for Pearls and Lace.

Blues, Teas, Rhinestones, and Brooches!

The Fun of the Hunt:
Garage Sales, small town stores, and Goodwill!
What awesome finds this month.
The two handpainted brooches in this post are the ones I mentioned in my previous post.
I just couldn't let them get away! And the blue book is one of 3 childrens books that I found at a local store. Aren't they darling?? One blue, one pink and one lavender.

This teapot is from my mother's collection. I think it's called Windsor. At least that's what is on the bottom of it. The details of the ring of flowers around it is so sweet.
I love all the different colors. It matches my new books!

The 3rd brooch is painted with lavender and purple. It looks perfect perched on the new book.

I have been unusually blessed with the earrings I've found recently. I love the look of rhinestones, and whenever I see some, I get them if they aren't too high priced.
They are so sweet!! I love the way they look, like they could be worn to an evening Symphony performance with a black dress.

These are the marks on the bottom of the teapot. I sure do wish I liked tea....
I'm a coffee person!!

Pearls and Lace Thursday #9

Hand Painted Beauty
I'm just enthralled right now with the way this Hand Painted brooch looks.
It is a very old piece with an etched name on the back.
I fell in love with it the first time I saw it, back a number of months ago at a local Antique shop. The lady who had this in her case has shown it to me so many times over the last months, and now one day when she wasn't even there, I went by and finally bought it.

The pearls seem to just set it off and make it pop. I just love the way the pictures turned out.
I had so much fun making this little vignette so I could hopefully catch its beauty and share it with you all.

I'm sure that it's only the first of hopefully many more that I will be adding to my new favorite collection! I sure hope I'll be able to find some more!!!
Come and join me with your own post of your beauties!!!
We'd love to see what you love!!

My Heart was Pounding!!

THE Garage Sale Find of the Century!
Pearls. LOTS of pearls.
Not real of course, but WHO CARES!!!

I was alone in the back room of the small town's church sale. The whole table was loaded with tons of old jewelry, mostly plastic earrings and beads, but atop the piles were the PEARLS~!!!
LOTS of them~!!! My mouth went dry and my heart began to pound.
I looked around and there was no one else in the room....Could I get them all in my hands before someone else walked and wanted some???? Would I have time to go through all the little boxes to find any more special finds???
I almost died....there were so many, and the prices were AWESOME!
I loaded my hands, my arms, and dug to my heart's content.
No one else came in the room!!! I could look at everything and make sure I didn't miss anything.
My heart almost couldn't take it. I decided as I finished looking at every single bit available that I wouldn't be able to make it through the rest of the sale if I didn't give my finds to the cashier to begin tallying up.
I took the handfuls of Treasures to her and asked her to please start totalling it up. She smiled a huge smile at me and began!!!
I went back into the room and was finally able to concentrate on what else was in the room.
After the final adding was done, I purchased my Treasures and floated across the parking lot to my very hot car.
I floated home, and had an absolutly wonderful time looking through the treasure more carefully. How fun~!

Just wanted to tempt y'all so you'd join me for Pearls and Lace Thursday

Pearls and Lace Thursday #8

Pearls and Lace Thursday #8
I know it's been a while, and yet sometimes we can't always make things happen.
BUT, today I can, so I'm posting the 8th version of Pearls and Lace Thursday!
I hope you will all find something fun to see, and that you'll join me!

There are times I choose NOT to visit a garage sale. It just doesn't look 'good' enough, so I'll drive on by. Not so in this case. Looks really were deceiving!!

Not only the pearl choker, but the small silver brush were hiding there patiently waiting for me to find and rescue them! What fun!

And knowing there is buried treasure awaiting me in almost every sale I pass, it's SO hard to pass them up when I have to be somewhere else!!!
Why don't people just call me up the day before and tell me all the goodies they have and I'd be so happy to take so much off their hands!!! If you live near me and are having a sale,
PLEASE CALL ME!!!!
(wink, wink!)

Join me below using the Linky and be sure and check out everyone else!
Blessings!

And now, "AMEN".

Sometimes I pray and when I reach the end of my prayer for that time, I think 'amen', but then I change my mind and leave it open-ended...because I know I'll be praying more as the moments go by. Why actually end my prayers? I think as I go through tough times that I'm more aware of the fact that I pray all day long. Those prayers might only be a few words, or even a quick sentence, but it seems I'm always going to the Father many times during the day.

As I write this, it has been exactly one week to the minute that my dear birth-mother was taken Home to be with her Lord. I was at her side, and I wouldn't have been any other place on the face of the earth. She gave life to me, and I was able to be with her in death. We shared a bond that can only be described as 'unique'.

The weeks before her death were difficult. She fought cancer for a number of months. The ending was difficult. But GOD gets the glory because she confessed Jesus as her Saviour. The prayers I prayed all during the days before and since her passing have been open-ended...with no 'Amen' to finalize them.

Tonight, just now, I've been able to say "Amen". It's not morbid, it's just a chapter of prayer that is now closed. But don't think the prayers have stopped! No, they're just beginning. I have so many people to pray for still. As I think of all the people who have been touched by this woman, I know that I have a responsibility to pray for them. As I realize my own position in this world, my 'unique' position, I know God has put me in this place for a purpose.

What is your purpose? Are you in a time of open prayer? Does the 'amen' seems futile because you're still running a race? Persevere to the end, knowing that God is in control, God will give you grace, and God will give you strength. When the "Amen" comes, it's a time of praise even though there's pain. It's a time of newness, for the old has passed away. It's a time of purpose because He will guide you to the next place. We are to glorify HIM in all things.

My prayers are that you will be blessed,

Doni
