Pearls and Lace Thursday #112 Drawer Number Two

For those of you who are wondering, I'm sharing some of my Laces with you that I've collected over the past years.  I have them carefully rolled and stored in some vintage sewing boxes which I posted about previously (just scroll down!), and this week I will be showing detailed pictures of the second of three drawers of laces.  I hope you enjoy them!

The old newspaper pieces were tucked inside an old hymnal that I got from this area of Texas.  The Sulphur Springs newspaper had some interesting prices for items back in 1959

don't you think?  And the pencil writing of songs made me laugh:

Buttons and Bows, Red red Robin, Micking Bird Hill, Buttermilk Skies, Cool Cool Water!

Even the tattered and torn, stained and discolored pieces are pretty.

I guess I have a thing for texture and the colors of whites and ecrus...

I find these old dried roses gorgeous. 

They were white when freshly given to me by my wonderful hubby!

And now for a bit of Fall.

The leaf below is from an extremely old and withered tree in our front yard which I believe we were told is a Boxwood (does that seem right to y'all??).  I picked it up and couldn't resist sharing it with you.  It was soft and supple and gorgeous.  I even used it for the background of some of the closeups of the laces!

texture, color, detail and depth...it's got it all!

The gorgeous lace piece below is a gift from my friend Gail...you have blessed me so much!

I use this piece often in my photos...because I love it so much!

 I've loved this kitchen scale for years...it was my Grossmutter's!  The rusty goodness of it is just so wonderful!  I keep it in my kitchen and put dishes on it...but today it just needed some lace!

Pearls and Lace Thursday #99 The Weaver

My Grandmother was probably one of the most important people in my life.

She was an integral part of the family, and only lived three doors down the road from our house.

We walked to her house, with both she and my mother watching from each front yard, while my sis and I walked the distance to house, or back home.

She was a mixture of French/German, spoke some of both, and had the softest skin and numerous wrinkles.

Her hair was the perfect silver gray...not too curly, and not too straight.

She was perfect in my eyes...

One of the items I remember from her home was this picture.

It is just a poem with a hand painted long stemmed rose next to the printed words.

A friend of hers painted that rose.  I've tried to copy it and share it with my own painting efforts (can we say epic fail??)

Anyhow, I have cherished this picture that is framed and located on the wall in my dining room.

I'd like to share it with you, because the words of the poem have come to me several times in my life.

Perhaps they can help you in yours.  I will print out the words for you below so you can copy and paste them if you'd like.

THE WEAVER

My life is but a weaving

Between the Lord and me;

I may not choose the colors,

He knows what they should be;

For He can see the pattern

Upon the upper side,

While I can see it only

On this, the under side.

Sometimes He weaveth illness

Which seemeth strange to me;

But I shall trust His judgement,

And work on faithfully;

'Tis He who fills the shuttle,

He know just what is best,

So I shall weave in earnest

And leave with Him the rest.

Not till the loom is silent

And the shuttles cease to fly,

Pearls and Lace Thursday #57 and the Dress Form covered with My BLOG PICTURES!!

Another Dress Form...and this one is covered with pictures from this BLOG!!

Do you recognize any of the pictures? 

Below is a section of my Blog Header, with the hand painted buttons...

Around the actual neck part is the hand painted bowl full of pearls...you can really see the gilding stand out.

Also are a number of pieces using the seam binding ribbon pics from a recent post.

Do you see my violin?  And there is a picture of the last birthday card my Grossmutter sent me before she passed away...so precious to me.

The blue cup and saucer really stand out, and I think I will be trying another dress form soon with it totally covered in blue and white china, with another form totally covered in pics of red and white transferware!

A bit of pink lace edging the bottom, and the actual dried roses below near the picture of them on the form.

I like the way the hand painted brooches turned out.  All I used for this project was the dress form, lots of pictures printed out on cardstock from my personal blog, walnut ink, water, and Mod Podge. 

The form below was the one I showed you a week ago, and now they are both in my guest room.

Girls, girls, none of that attitude stuff in here!! Simmer down now.....

You are both pretty and I love you equally....

Pearls and Lace #21

It's all Red!

I pulled a bit of red from all over the house and had so much fun doing it!  From the buttons to the old printer's shelf, old bobbins to glassware, red is one of my favorite colors with which to decorate.  The dark reds are my favorites.  Now don't think my whole house is done is red...it's not.  I love lots of colors, and there are some that I don't care for at all.  But, as a favorite...this is one of the top.

The red candy dish belonged to my Grossmutter.  I remember as a little girl going to her house (she lived only 3 houses away from us!) and dusting the furniture.  This candy jar as well as a milk glass one resided on the half-wall located just inside her foyer by her telephone table.  I would carefully dust each crevice of the glass in hopes that I wouldn't miss a spot or break it.  So far, I haven't broken it!

I'm also a lover of old tins. This one has a foreign word on the top and has been in my collection for many years.  Others I've only had for a few months!

Old buttons just seem to find their way now into my blog posts.  I've seen how talented many of you are with laces and buttons and have had an itch to try something with them.  Perhaps I'll get all my stuff together and start!! 

These are the only two pieces of the red transferware that I have, but I'm hoping to find some more!  These have the English castles on them and I'm in love with them.

These little perfume bottles are my latest finds.  I found them this last weekend at a yard sale and think they're sooooo sweet! I love the red cord on the one on the right, and the delicate and graceful lines of the one on the left make it one of my favorites.
