Pearls and Lace, My Favorites!

Pearls and Lace Thursday #116 Fabric and Lace Collage: "God Brought Us Together"

Here is my first attempt at making a Fabric and Lace Collage.
I've named it "God Brought Us Together"

I have been pinning, searching, drooling, and fantasizing over some gorgeous pictures of projects others have created and have finally tried my own.
The pictures are of my Birthmother on the left, and myself on the right.  I chose pictures that show each of us around 18 years old.  For those of you who read My Adoption Story (you can find it here), you will know that God allowed me to find my Birthmother when I was 30.  We immediately clicked.

As we got to know each other better, we found that we had MANY similarities in our likes and dislikes, in our crafting, and in our thoughts and emotions.
I included what I call a 'Memory Chatelaine' hanging on the right side of the collage to represent some of our favorite crafts...needlework!  The threads were hers, and the key was mine.  The key represents the unlocking of the door to knowing her.

We were both born in January, so the garnet buttons at the top are perfect embellishments.
I used many different types of laces and trims, some of them are my very favorites.
Many of them were simply tacked on by a few threads, and others sewn with machine, but none were glued.

Isn't she beautiful?

With my love of laces I wanted to create something that would last, and yet NOT destroy any pieces of lace that I used.
I spent HOURS trying this piece of lace, that piece of lace, and have finally put together a piece that I am proud of. No laces were harmed or destroyed in the making of this collage! Some pieces I used whole, as is, so that the integrity of the piece would be intact.

It took me forever to figure out how to put a piece of muslin through my printer, and since it's NOT an inkjet, NO moisture should get near it!  I will have to figure out another type of printing!
I thought my mother's picture was beautiful and have been wanting to create something beautiful to showcase it and our story.  I think she would have loved it.

It's time for Pearls and Lace Thursday!  Just add your url code from your blog post to the link below!
I am thrilled to welcome my newest followers...Hello Ladies!!
Thanks to each of you who joined us last week!
Blessings,
Doni

Doni,
THis is absolutely gorgeous....I understand the taking time to figure out just how you want it. I have been trying to learn how to make tags and my perfectionism gets in the way. I think it would be wise for me to just play for awhile instead of expecting a masterpiece from myself on the first few.....*rolling eyes at myself*.
I LOVE your laces and ribbons and threads and floral boxes, and I just feel so .....how do you explain that feeling?...Well, i think I feel JUST LIKE YOU DO about them. All warm and fuzzy, and in awe and my heart beat picks up and I ooo and ahhhhh over it...I LOVE your colelctions of threads. Cross stitch was my first love in the way of truly creating things. I did lots of things as a kid, but at 16 I turned into a cross stitch matting and framing perfectionist....Love your beautiful collage...
Hearts,
Betsy

I love your blog and this handmade memory art you made of you and your mother <3 I am from Norway, the country of the North ;) I an also a believer. Thanks for sharing your adopted story, wonderful miracle ! I was healed from MS last year, Roland Baker prayed for me, and Jesus healed me :) thats why I started to blog, i hospital I did not know what was wrong, paralysed on my left side not able to speak. I asked God to show me something to focus on: He showed me pink roses, I promised Him to paint them for His Glory if I could ever move again, one month after, I was healed! My blog is called pinkroseblog in norwegian, to spred the blessings He gave me <3 May He bless you much this season : Lisbeth

Oh sweet Doni, what a beautiful tribute to your birth mother. I love your combination of colours, textures and mediums that you have used. I hope you have it hanging somewhere special so that you can enjoy it each day.

I have been antiquing today and found a couple of treasures for our lace swap. Do you have time to try to do it before Christmas or would you prefer to wait until the new year ? Maybe we could challenge ourselves to create something pretty with what we send each other (just a thought). Let me know what your thoughts are xo

You must truly be a lover of lace; you've created real beauty here and have obviously used such care in your work. Great job!
