Pearls and Lace Thursday #87 Violin and Lace

Violin and Monogrammed Lace
I began violin lessons in the 2nd grade at my elementary school in Dallas.

My teacher was wonderful.  A lovely lady who inspired and taught with a love for music and children that has been a legacy that has lasted ever since.  Clumsy at first, with lots and lots of squeaking and gritted teeth, the years of my lessons and practice have made me into a violinist.  I don't play for anything much these days (I'm now almost 50), but for church on Sundays.  I love playing.  It's so much a part of me now that I'd have to say it was like one of my best friends.
If ever the day comes when I can no longer play, I will feel as if I've lost a friend of many years.

I remember how many hours and hours of practice went into my elementary, jr. high, and high school years...playing with the high school orchestra was my favorite class time.

College found me majoring in music, elementary ed., and graduating with a degree in it.
What I hated most though was practicing!  Always trying to get something perfect.
Well, today, I practice, but it's much more enjoyable to me.

My love for delicate lace and my love for my instrument are going to blend today in what I hope will be a beautiful post.

The monogrammed lace piece I'm featuring today is a recent purchase from etsy.  Oh how I love etsy!
And the laces I've found are lovely.  This one is a gorgeous piece, and large too.  I could just see it against the wood on my violin as soon as I saw it on the internet!!  So I just HAD to have it!
In the weeks to come I will be showing you some more lovely vintage lace pieces that are in my collection so be sure and check back!  I'll also be showing you some background boards that I've begun to work on, the first one is pictured behind my violin...just a sticky foamboard with old hymn pages stuck on it!

White Wednesday at Faded Charm Cottage has always been one of my favorite parties.  One of the first I ever joined.  But because my past posts have been so colorful....well...I've not participated.
So this week, I'm going to join the party, but I'm also going to make this post my own Pearls and Lace Thursday party post!  It's early, yes, but I wanted it to be open all week for other party joining too!
One in particular is at Knick of Time with Angie!  Be sure and check out her blog!
Lots of my favorite parties are listed on the sidebar, so be sure and have a look at them too!  Each week just makes me excited as I see what y'all have to share.
Thank you so much my sweet friends for following and commenting!  I'm overjoyed with your lovely comments and y'all are just the greatest!
Hope you enjoy the party, and please link your own post to the link below!
May you each have a lovely week,
Doni

Oh, I always wanted to play the violin but I was not gifted in the music area and there was no where to take lessons. I can just imagine the beautiful music you make!

Oh, Doni! I played the violin from the time I was 8 until I was 20. I was quite serious about it, but. . . I had an accident with my hand which prevented my playing for a while, and then I did not take it up again. The violin is my very favorite instrument, and I just love hearing it played well. Fortunately,I live in a part of the country where the world's finest often perform, and I do feel very, very lucky that I had such great exposure and understanding of music. It is a gift, and I certainly can understand how you feel!

Beautiful post! I love those monogram lace pieces. What a great find. The violin is also very beautiful. There is just something romantic about violins and harps and, of course lace.

Oh, Doni what a sweet post!

I too am a musician but certainly never majored in it - flute and piano are my instruments.

I love your sentiments, love your good early beginnings teacher that helped form your lifelong relationship with your violin.

I feel that way about my piano - I sometimes will be creating music and image losing my ability to play and it rattles me. So I completely understand you there.

This is my first time finding your blog - how fun....so I am not showing pearls and lace, but I hope you like my little teacup story and some past posts.

I just started blogging on Jan 1st and still learning - and loving - it very much! Hope you stop by!

Have a blessed weekend.

Hi Doni,
I'm always in awe of those who can play an instrument, because it does seem to be such a release, a friend to turn to. I loved learning about even more talents you have, and seeing your gorgeous lace pieces. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Hugs,
Patti

Doni oh so very pretty! Thank you for linking up last week! I am so glad you did because I was trying to think of who it was that had the babies! Let me know when you think you will have some new litters. We are looking at possibly adopting sometime this summer.
