Buttons Galore!!!
I went to a real, honest to goodness, moving sale last weekend with my best friend. She and I had a fun time!
I found 3 bags of buttons and carded buttons. What sweet little treasures!!!
Here's what I found:
Aren't those leaf shaped buttons the coolest????
Yummy rhinestones!!
and the cutest baby pattern dated August 8, 1935.
So sweet!!
I love finding buttons. Looking through them is just getting to know the family that they came from. You can tell a lot about buttons from a family. Were they thrifty and did they keep everything? Are there buttons tied together with thread to keep them together? Was the owner a lover of reds, whites, or greens? You can tell styles of dresses that were worn, whether the men were in the military, or whether there were children in the family by the buttons kept in the family button jar. Always, there's something in there that's NOT a button.
I found a Hot Wheel's tire in my bags, along with a few saved stoppers from a salt shaker. The rhinestone pieces might be missing a stone or two...or more, but still, it was saved.
We that live in this generation don't really value the family button jar that once was prized by our mothers and grandmothers and even great-grandmothers. We haven't had to live through World Wars or huge Recessions where food was scarce and thread was saved.
Aren't we blessed? The buttons give evidence of those blessings. Do you save your buttons? Do you collect them to remember and get to know those from the past??
It's a wonderfully fun hobby.

So well said! I always marvel how much you can tell about a woman by her buttons and her sewing box. They are filled with a lifetime like preserved little time capsules. You got some great scores, too. I am a sucker for rhinestones and love those lucite buttons with flowers in them, too. I'm a fool for buttons - LOL!
DO I have buttons, oh do not ever ask that question with my hubby around! I think that my mother of pear buttons alone on a scale would weigh.....30 pounds! I have jars and bottles and bottles of mops. Now on to the other ones, the rhinestone, the vintage, the colors, I could say, at least another 30 pounds, it's insane! I like to buy the big lots on ebay, wash them, bleach them and again, put them in bottles!!!!!!So I am soooo jealous of your find! xoxo-cindy
oops I tried to post my buttons and messed up, could you delete my link up and I'll try again when it's cleared? SOrry!!!xo-cindy
lot pretty buttons
I just love buttons and love sorting them and putting the different colors in different jars
I posted my china salt & pepper garland this week

Dear Doni,
I love buttons so much! My grandmother always had gobs of buttons in jars or tin boxes. I would spend hours going through them - it is mesmerizing! I have my own button collection now - but I am coveting your extraordianry buttons!
Have a great weekend, dear friend.

I love collecting buttons especially vintage ones. They are like little jewels. Lovely photographs!
Wow! All those wonderful buttons!
What a great find. I do love buttons and the jars, tins and whatever else I find them in. Yup, these containers full of buttons do tell a story.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great holiday weekend.

Wonderful post. I think many of us remember playing in the button box, sorting and imagining.
You made me smile when you said there is ALWAYS something else mixed in with the buttons. So true.
And now everyone thinks their old buttons are priceless treasures. So nice to find affordable ones.
You hit a treasure load.
Lucky you - I would have made a beeline for those buttons too. I have been making cards with buttons and lace today! M x
Oh just seeing all those beautiful buttons makes me smile! I love finding old buttons! Thank you for joining TTF and have a fun week!
