Pearls and Lace Thursday #79 Crocheted Edges

Hello Everyone!

Hope you are all safe and warm.  The sun is shining brightly here, and last night was cold, but today and the rest of the week we are warming up.

For all of you who are slushing through snow, I really feel for you.

I would make you a hot cup of chocolate and sit you near the fire so you'd be cozy and warm!!

During December I stayed busy making some small stuffed hearts out of a piece of embroidery I found at a garage sale.  I met the little lady who had spent so many of her days working with her hands to make these squares for a quilt. 

She was moving, and all of her sewing items were having to be sold.

I always have a feeling of sadness when I find things like this.  Especially if I've met the woman who made them.  But this time, I think she was ready.

I ask myself the question too...will I someday be ready to give all my prized sewing items up?

I think it will be easier if I know they are going to someone who will cherish them as much as I did.

I hope she would think that I did a good job of carrying on with her work.

While I was in the crocheting mood, I grabbed my favorite heart pillow from the guestroom bed and decided it needed a crocheted edge as well.  I think it's just what it needed!

I loved the pastel colors of these roses so much that I couldn't give it away!

And I've see so many of you talented ladies making these little strawberries that I thought I'd try some!

The crochet thread and hooks are put away, and I'm doing something now that I haven't picked up in years.  Can you guess what I'm working on now??

I have a question for you.  If you have cases of DMC floss, how do you prefer to order them in the cases?

I started with one box, so easiest to do was by number.  Now I have ALL of the DMC floss colors (thanks to my dear birthmother) and she ordered them by color group according to DMC.  Hmmm....seems like I can't find the right color very easily.  Should I go ahead and redo ALL 10 BOXES?????

And now for the Beautiful Garage Sale Finds!!

There's something about the old and unique that just captures my interest.  I don't know whether it's the shape, color, texture, or object, but if it's old and it's different from the ordinary, I like it!

I recently found 2 bird items...one a glass piece with what looks like molten glass for a base with 2 sweet birdies facing each other on top.  It's a very pretty piece and I've never seen one like it before.

The other bird I recently found is the cast iron birdie.  She was evidently sitting on a cast iron something else but has been separated from it somehow.  She's a bit rusty and old looking, but charming in her own way!

The jeweled cross piece is also a recent find.  I'm so glad that I found it!  It's so pretty sitting in the small pink glass bowl that I found, perhaps it just needs to stay there!

What could be prettier than flowers, all kinds of pretty colors, and a nice sized dish?  Well all of them put together to make a pretty bowl!

The hand made tatted edging is a real find!  It was included in a baggy full of odds and ends, some good, some not so good.  This was wound around a piece of cardboard and was just waiting for me to find it!  I think my eyes just gravitate toward the sewing things and jeweled things first!  Of course the china pieces grab my attention as well!  Do you ever get that feeling when you go someplace of not being able to see?  I mean, I look at something, but don't quite take it all in, then look again later and see things right next to it that I missed the first time!  Why is it I get so excited that I practically have tunnel vision!!??

Going along with the bird theme, the verse below from Matthew is one that my husband has recently preached on.  When I think of the birds of the air, I think of these verses:

The gorgeous pink rock that I saw at a sale a few weeks ago....I was thrilled with this!!! PINK!!! It will look very nice alongside the pink rocks I've found previously, don't you think??

All along the roads I travel, I wonder who made the laces, who loved the dishes, who held the items or loved them before I came along and found them.  Do you ever wonder about your finds?  Wonder what their story is?  I really wondered about the Irish Lace tablecloth or bedspread starter that I found last weekend.  An elderly man and his mid-40's son were having a yard sale.  I think a dear lady must have spent many hours making things of beauty to have in her home.  Now it's a forgotten relic of a bygone day, but precious to me who will cherish it for the art form it is. 

Sometimes things happen while I'm out hunting for the Mother of all Finds.  Like this:

Somewhere out there is a lady who got all kinds of awesome finds at a sale I was at...it was at a huge old warehouse and there sitting out in front, next to the table where you pay, was a pile of lovelies!  A vintage dress form for only 25 dollars!! Already taken, a box lid full of vintage crochet thread!  Already taken.  Another box lid full of vintage aged perfectly tags!  Already taken.  Frames, frames, frames.....oh you know who you are!!! I waited to find you for a few minutes to see if I could purchase some of these finds from you before you even got to your car!!!!  Never found you!

But at least I found the old wooden spools before you did!  I love those things!  Anyhow, I love your finds and hope you have a great time with them!

Would You Like Some Cream With Your Tea?

I was expecting my youngest son when I purchased these ceramic cows.

That was over 21 years ago!!!

I just couldn't resist them. I had this thing for Holsteins when I was in college, and I've always loved cows anyway, so when I saw them, well, it was a done deal!

The teacups, creamer and sugar bowl were a recent find at a yard sale down the road from us.

That's another thing I can't resist...china. Especially PRETTY china!

The mark on the bottom is from Poland. So hard for me to get a good shot with my little ol' camera! Sorry! I usually just forget to get the bottom!!

Pink Rocks!

Literally! I have Pink Rocks!

Does anyone know what these are? Are they quartz? They have this almost soapy feel to them when they are wet.

I found them in an out of the way flea market sale and fell in love with them.

(update: I checked to see if they felt 'warm' when held against the skin, and I can't say that they do...but it did feel warm on the rock after I held it to my arm for a moment or two.

AND, I tested it for saltiness, and WHEW! It was VERY salty tasting! I can just see y'all laughing at me because I tasted it!!! I am! Y'all might as well!!)

Do any of you ever find something at a sale and think, "Oh this would be so pretty in a post for my blog for Pink Saturday!"...? Well, I did just that. I spotted these one day when I didn't have but a little bit of change on me...and I didn't buy them that day.

I went back a week later and didn't see them in the same spot......oh no.....

"OK...where are those pink rocks you had over here last week?" I asked.

She knew I'd come back.

She had only moved them. Yea!!

I just couldn't wait to get my camera out and all my pretties out and begin taking pictures of them displayed with some other pink finds.

I even partially dismantled one of my huge feaux flower arrangements so I could use the pink hydrangeas with them!!

The pink edged doilies were a recent find as well! I was really having a pink week!

The hand painted perfume bottle and powder jar are old. I was one of those really strange kids who used to stop by garage sales on my bike when I was in Junior High school. I'd go miles and miles, and sometimes I'd find some really cool stuff to bring home. This set of dresser items was a find from way back then. They couldn't have cost much...after all I was just a kid! (and I had to have SOME money left over for candy!!).

I rode my bike all the way home with these hanging from my handle bars in a bag...

and they didn't break!!!

Unique Whites

Unique yes, white, welllllll.........

Let's just say it's a "shade" of the whites.

Absolutley too cool not to share that!

It seems like I find the neatest things at the places I shop at, whether flea markets, antique shops, or garage sales, almost each one has 'something' that is unique and worth purchasing.
