Pearls and Lace Thursday #113 Chintz With Lace Drawer #3

Drawer Number Three is ready for display!  I have used my violin as the backdrop along with some serendipitous finds of lovely vintage photograph BACKS!  I don't remember where or when I came upon these photographs, but the BACKS were so beautiful that I just had to show them off.

The lace trims that I've collected over the years are just so gorgeous.  I wish I knew a way to safely showcase them where they'd be on display for all to enjoy.

Well hello (smacking myself on the forehead)!

 This blog!!  Duh!

You know when something not only catches your eye with its beauty, but it catches your heart and you just KNOW it was meant for you?  And on top of it all, the price is so cheap that you hug it to yourself and don't let go?  Well, this little cracked, stained, crazed piece of chintz was all that to me. 

The pictures on the front are of course wonderful...loved ones of those from long ago.  But the aged variations of the creams and brownson their backs are so soothing, and of course the graphics are lovely.  Oh to have things like this on our products nowadays.  I sometimes wonder what we purchase as a daily item today that will be a wonderful vintage find to others in the future?  Certainly NOT the plastic wrapped items and containers, right??

The large medallion pictured below is actually a frame made of two pieces (as you can probably see because of my placing of the pieces so oddly!!)

I am so honored to be included in Angie's post on Tuesday at Knick of Time

because she chose last week's post as one of her featured posts for her Tuesday party!!

The pink rose box is a jewelry box find from Etsy.  It's one of my very favorite's, therefore it gets used to hold my very favorite laces!

Isn't this a lovely piece?  I just can't get over the tiny stitches and delicate holes, perfect on each side.

Details like this are hard to accomplish, therefore I am loving the works of lace that have such tiny details.

I hope my photos are capturing the delicate pieces so that you can enjoy them.

Pearls and Lace Thursday #87 Violin and Lace

Violin and Monogrammed Lace

I began violin lessons in the 2nd grade at my elementary school in Dallas.

My teacher was wonderful.  A lovely lady who inspired and taught with a love for music and children that has been a legacy that has lasted ever since.  Clumsy at first, with lots and lots of squeaking and gritted teeth, the years of my lessons and practice have made me into a violinist.  I don't play for anything much these days (I'm now almost 50), but for church on Sundays.  I love playing.  It's so much a part of me now that I'd have to say it was like one of my best friends.

If ever the day comes when I can no longer play, I will feel as if I've lost a friend of many years.

I remember how many hours and hours of practice went into my elementary, jr. high, and high school years...playing with the high school orchestra was my favorite class time.

College found me majoring in music, elementary ed., and graduating with a degree in it.

What I hated most though was practicing!  Always trying to get something perfect.

Well, today, I practice, but it's much more enjoyable to me.

My love for delicate lace and my love for my instrument are going to blend today in what I hope will be a beautiful post. 

The monogrammed lace piece I'm featuring today is a recent purchase from etsy.  Oh how I love etsy!

And the laces I've found are lovely.  This one is a gorgeous piece, and large too.  I could just see it against the wood on my violin as soon as I saw it on the internet!!  So I just HAD to have it!

In the weeks to come I will be showing you some more lovely vintage lace pieces that are in my collection so be sure and check back!  I'll also be showing you some background boards that I've begun to work on, the first one is pictured behind my violin...just a sticky foamboard with old hymn pages stuck on it!

 White Wednesday at Faded Charm Cottage has always been one of my favorite parties.  One of the first I ever joined.  But because my past posts have been so colorful....well...I've not participated.

So this week, I'm going to join the party, but I'm also going to make this post my own Pearls and Lace Thursday party post!  It's early, yes, but I wanted it to be open all week for other party joining too!

Pearls and Lace Thursday # 72 Music and More Lace!

I don't know if y'all are aware, but I'm a musician.  I play the violin (see my violin post here), therefore music has always had a very large part in who I am.  As I've matured over the years, I've been able to collect different types of vintage pieces of music.  I've loved using them in my displays, and especially loved that it has become appreciated by artists for use in collages and backgrounds.  I've seen some wonderfully talented uses for old stained music and always seem to be enthralled by what y'all come up with for using it.

As I look through piles of old piano music, I wonder who it was that played the pieces.  A name might be written on a piece...pencilled in directions here and there...was she young or matronly?  Did she play for a crowd or to please herself?  Was her piano in a small home or a stately mansion?

In last week's post for Pearls and Lace Thursday, I shared some of my most beautiful piano music.

As I look at the exquisite drawings decorating the front cover of these pieces, I am totally lost in the artwork.  It's not just a piece of music, but a work of art!  How lovely to be able to enjoy the lovely florals and scrolls and fonts without even hearing the music.

This week, I'm using the beauty of the inside of the music as a background for some more laces I'd like to share with you.  I hope you enjoy!!

I guess you can say I got carried away, but setting up this group of laces and music and buttons was SO MUCH FUN!!  I mean really....getting to play with the pretties!  They are my toys you know!

Pearls and Lace Thursday, The Master's Violin

The Master's Violin

I've been thinking about using my violin for one of my blog posts, and when I found this book, it all just came together.  It's a book by Myrtle Reed, and I'm very excited about finding it.  I have a thing for old books, and have quite a few that I've found lately.  Don't be surprised either if I use my violin again.  A lot of my new finds are old hymn books!

I also recently found some music cards from a WONDERFUL lady named Cathy at her Etsy shop SeaSeaRider and she spent time getting together a lovely set of cards especially for me.  She asked me some of my interests and came up with such a perfect set of cards, I was delighted!!!

I have a rather different bow for my violin, because it has an ivory 'frog' or handle grip, and I've had it and my violin ever since I was in high school.  I won't tell you how many years that has been!!!

The hand-painted bowl is another one of my very favorite things, and I might use it as the centerpiece of my new blog heading.  Who knows, maybe I'll use my violin too!
