And now, "AMEN".

Sometimes I pray and when I reach the end of my prayer for that time, I think 'amen', but then I change my mind and leave it open-ended...because I know I'll be praying more as the moments go by. Why actually end my prayers? I think as I go through tough times that I'm more aware of the fact that I pray all day long. Those prayers might only be a few words, or even a quick sentence, but it seems I'm always going to the Father many times during the day.

As I write this, it has been exactly one week to the minute that my dear birth-mother was taken Home to be with her Lord. I was at her side, and I wouldn't have been any other place on the face of the earth. She gave life to me, and I was able to be with her in death. We shared a bond that can only be described as 'unique'.

The weeks before her death were difficult. She fought cancer for a number of months. The ending was difficult. But GOD gets the glory because she confessed Jesus as her Saviour. The prayers I prayed all during the days before and since her passing have been open-ended...with no 'Amen' to finalize them.

Tonight, just now, I've been able to say "Amen". It's not morbid, it's just a chapter of prayer that is now closed. But don't think the prayers have stopped! No, they're just beginning. I have so many people to pray for still. As I think of all the people who have been touched by this woman, I know that I have a responsibility to pray for them. As I realize my own position in this world, my 'unique' position, I know God has put me in this place for a purpose.

What is your purpose? Are you in a time of open prayer? Does the 'amen' seems futile because you're still running a race? Persevere to the end, knowing that God is in control, God will give you grace, and God will give you strength. When the "Amen" comes, it's a time of praise even though there's pain. It's a time of newness, for the old has passed away. It's a time of purpose because He will guide you to the next place. We are to glorify HIM in all things.

My prayers are that you will be blessed,

Doni

Dear Doni,
I am so greatly saddened to hear of your loss. My prayers are with you and your family. I think every Mother and daughter share a "unique" relationship. I think most have their ups and downs.
My relationship with my mother was very strained the last years of her life. But in the end, I was the one who carried out her wishes, stopped all life support , had her sent to hospice and was the one who gave her the permission to go and be with my Dad and that we all would be alright. She died about 2 hours later. I was the forgotten daughter those last years but we both gave forgiveness to each other and I have no regrets. It sounds like you don't have any regrets either. You were there in the end and that is what matters the most.

Hugs,
Debbie

Sad to hear of your mom's passing, but GLAD to hear of her salvation. I like how you said you were able to say AMEN to your prayers for your mom. As I was reading your post I was reminded how the bible says we are to pray with out ceasing so perhaps we should not say AMEN more often. God bless ya, Debbie <><

I am so sorry for your loss. I too believe in open prayer and am in a state of always praying. I know my purpose now to pray for my husband to know Him. It's wonderful that your Mom knows Him. All I can really say is ((((hugs))))

Doni, this was a beautiful post.
Sorry to hear about your Mother but it's good to know she is not suffering anymore.
Blessings will be given to you for taking care of her and staying with her during the most difficult time. It was then that she needed you, your support, your love and your prayers to see her through.
I love "open ended" prayers Doni...that always leaves me waiting for His answer :)
And then, I always give an "Amen" after Thanks! :)))
Have a wonderful week girlfriend and take care of you~

I lost my mother 8 years ago to the scurge of the earth that cancer is. My heartfelt hugs & love come to you. But mostly my prayers for His grace to sustain you through this difficult time . . . b/c it WILL be difficult, make no mistake. And I will end each time with an Amen, b/c I know that that means He has heard me, and He is already working in the manner in which you need (be it a comforting word from someone just when you need it & didn't even realize you did, or a hug from someone you love, or seeing something that you knew she always loved [for me that happens every time I see a butterfly], or the laughter of children reminding you that life carries on). What a blessing that you had the privilege to know and love one another . . . and to BE there with her in the end in order to lead her to Christ. Now, you have the assurance of being together for eternity in the presence of the King. There's no greater comfort than that! Blessings & hugs & love ~ Merana
