My New Craft Space!! Where Bloggers Create 2016

Welcome!
I hope you all can handle the rambling of a busy yet excited lady!
We recently moved, and although our new home is wonderful, the unpacking is taking forever!
But I have worked hard to get my craft room ready for the party, and here it is!
Thank you Karen Valentine for hosting Where Bloggers Create again this year!
You can find all the party list at her blog here.

I have also started a You Tube channel where you can find many of my projects.
Please visit me here.
And for the video tour of my craft room click here.

As I looked at the piles of boxes the movers left in this room, a basement, all I could think of was:  I'll never be ready for next year's Where Bloggers Create Party!!
But I started.  With the walls!
The walls here are of rough cut wood...splinters and all!
So, I covered them...with the pages from an old falling apart Bible!!

Then I added the shelves and got my tables put up.

Lots of shelves and doilies!

Because I use my craft room for different things, I have my things in different areas.
The first group of pictures has shown my antique and vintage sewing notions and laces, sewing boxes and threads.

The next part of my room is where I do a lot of gluing!
I have my laces for making lace books and decorating over here:

Got to have something pretty to look at for inspiration!!

I lately began to organize these laces and trims using Fernlidesigns products.
They are awesome!  You can find my You Tube videos about this project here.

My dress form, named Nadine, was none too happy to have to travel in a dark trailer for the LONG move!!

I keep my projects that I'm working on in these decorated boxes, as well as lots of laces and doilies!
And the table below is my cutting table.  More boxes of laces, and lots of fabric for fun projects!!

In between the two craft areas is my sewing machine.

I've learned a lot in the months I've been working on my craft room.
First, I have to let myself, that is ALLOW myself, to make changes.
I know that sounds weird, but that's the way I work.  If I think of one way to organize and it really doesn't work, I need to be able to let it go.  Do it another way.  And with time (that's another thing...knowing it will take time to work out the glitches), it WILL all get put together the way I can best utilize it.

Second, I have to take TIME...already mentioned.
It takes actual time spent crafting to know where something best works.  If I need to be able to access a drawer with tools in it, then that drawer needs to be handy.  If my materials are a long way across the room, then I probably won't want to get up, go over there, and use them.  Time wasted, inspiration gone.
Organizing is great, but UTILIZING the space is for the best functioning of the space, and the best use of my TIME!

Third, It's OK to change things around even if you think it's set and ready to go.
Case in point.  A tall unit or rack that I own has been used to hold lots of fabric.  Well, it doesn't fit into this space.  Therefore, I have to figure out how to make the fabric fit in another way.

I moved my upholstered chairs probably about 50 times!  Yes!  During the unpacking, yes for sure, but even since then.  It doesn't make sense to put it where it is not functional and comfortable.

Fourth, Make it Pretty!!
When I start working on my space, I always have in my mind how I WANT it to look.  When that doesn't happen, I work with it until it is pleasing to my senses.  If a space needs to be covered, then pull out a curtain rod, rope, whatever works, and MAKE it look good.
Spray paint covers a lot of ugly too!

Fifth, Have fun.  Enjoy looking through each and every box or jar at all your saved pieces.  Familiarize yourself anew with what you have on hand.  Put it out, pack it up, whatever, but enjoy this process.

And you'll probably need to realize that it will change again.
Needs change, favorites change, sometimes we just need it to be CHANGED!
That's OK.  Giving myself permission again to change things.  Seems like that's all I do!
So, after all the effort put into it, I can finally say, I love it.  It's time to get busy!
I hope you each have a spot to call your own!  It can be a whole room, or it can be a small spot, but make it YOURS.  Make it fun, make it inspirational to YOU.  You're the one going to be using it after all!

Thank you for taking the time to look through my craft room!

Blessings,
Doni

Oh Doni, how I can relate to a recent move and all the unpacking, re-organizing, letting go, paring down and CHANGE! Your tips are valuable reminders, sometimes it's quite daunting as well as exciting to start over with a new Space and have it become functional and the Vision you have in Mind for it. Having to leave my Old Art Studio Cottage was perhaps one of the most difficult things EVER for me, so embracing my new Creative Sanctuaries and getting them set up has had it's fair share of challenges... mostly Emotionally, which I didn't expect. What you have accomplished has certainly Inspired me and Encouraged me to keep at it and continue with the Changes, which will just take Time, Trial and Error along the Process. Thank You for giving us the Tour of your New and Beautifully Decorated and Organized Creative Sanctuary. Blessings from the Arizona Desert... Dawn... The Bohemian

Hello Doni! I'm another participant who recently moved and downscaled - both to fit in our new home and make the whole moving process so much easier. It must have been an awful task to pack and unpack all of this. Well done for getting it done in time. Seems the party has provided impetus for many bloggers to get their space shipshape.

Doni --- SO many years ago when I found your space through this same bloghop, I was stunned at the beauty - this new space is beautiful too. I am downsizing and looking through every little bit I own (not just the crafty). It has been inspiring and challenging to face the enormous job, so I can relate.

I love visiting here and cannot wait to see the new beauty that comes forth from your new space.

have a wonderful day.

My dear Doni, I can't help but swoon over your delightful creative space. Everything, and I mean everything, is simply beautiful! How do you pull yourself away from such an enchanting place? :) I cannot imagine the work involved to go through everything and move it, but you did a spectacular job.

Thank you for giving us a tour. I was truly blessed by your lovely post. Hugs and joy!

I can totally relate to moving and then rearranging! I've been doing that for 4 months now. I completely agree with making the space one you will enjoy. As you say, it is where we play and be creative! Hugs!

You have done an amazing job. Moving is never easy, change is not always easy either. You have a nice large space to create in. Beautiful treasures.

Doni, you have a beautiful creative space and there's so many gorgeous things to look at! Your storage is so pretty to look at too. I'd love to have a rummage in your lace collection.
I find being part of Where bloggers create is a very good catalyst for having a look at your creative space, to see if it's still working for you etc.
Thank you for the look around your fantastic space💜

What a neat idea to cover your walls with pages. I think I would do that if I owned my apartment but since i'm renting, that may be a bit much for my super to consider!!! I agree with you about changing things when change is needed. I don't make many large changes but I do change where I put different art supplies. I can't imagine unpacking and organizing your workspace...you did a great job. And everywhere I look, there's eye-candy to enjoy. Thanks for sharing your studio. I will definitely be visiting often...

Your creative space is absolutely charming, Doni! Having just redone my creative space, including moving everything into boxes and stripping the room down to concrete in order to do a new floor, I get the stress factor and the exhaustion. It seemed so daunting, but it forced me to look at every single thing I have and moved me to change many of my old ways of storing and sorting my stash. It has been truly invigorating. So while I truly understand how overwhelming moving is, I think you are going about making it work for you. I will for sure be visiting your YouTube channel. I've really enjoyed seeing your creative space.

Happy Weekend!

Doni! What a beautiful space. I am going to check out your lace book YouTube videos too. i agree with having to change things around to make the time we have available to play the best time -- I've figured out what I need to hand, and that I actually need separate spaces for things, otherwise I will never get back to a beloved project... and I expect it to continue to evolve as my focus evolves (although it seems to have settled down for the moment).

Hi Doni
I am just so impressed what you have achieved having recently moved and downsized also especially having to start with covering your walls - Lordy!!! but you have achieved a very beautiful result. I love everything in there and your lace collections are simply amazing! Love also your little beaded purse collection.
Yes I do agree that everything needs to be on show and accessible so we know where to put our hand on things and after moving that takes some new learning!
Enjoy the party - time to rest for you now!

What a lovely room to create in! Your room is a work of art in itself. I'm sure you love spending time here. Your words of encouragement and helpful insights made me smile and nod my head. They also made me see my space in a different way.

It was lovely to come for a visit. I look forward to coming again.

Hi Sweetie!

I was lucky enough to find you just before WBC when you were doing your chairs over. I can't believe how gorgeous they turned out and how you got the whole room set up so beautifully! I just moved and want to participate, but most of my stuff is still in boxes, and what isn't looks a mess at the moment. My room won't be anywhere near as gorgeous as yours anyway. Your room is like heaven on earth, and I applaud you for pulling it all together so quickly after such a big move. Thank you for sharing it with all of us, as you can see by the comments, you've made many people happy with it. God bless you in this new space. Know I will be following both your blog and your YT channel and looking forward not only to seeing more of your room and goodies, but your tutorials and other videos. Thanks so much for all the hard work.

Hugs and prayers,
Maureen

Hi Doni,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I love the way you have covered your chair. That is something I really want to do. I smiled that you wrote about "permission to change things." Just today I completely rearranged my creative space. My work table was facing the wall and I wanted to be able to look out the window, so I moved everything around. I was feeling guilty for doing so this soon after the Where Bloggers Create party, but your post made me feel better.

With gratitude,
Terry
