Pearls and Lace Thursday #129 Fabric and Lace Collage Construction

Hello all you wonderful ladies!!  First off I want to say a huge thank you to each of you who left a comment on my previous post.  Y'all are so sweet!!  You really know how to make someone feel wonderful!
And if you are a lace lover, you might want to stick around to the end of this post!!!

As promised, here is how I made this Fabric and Lace Collage:

It started out in my mind as to the color scheme and the verse I wanted to use.  I picked out these colors because I'm in love with pink and cream together and wanted to have something lovely to hang in my living room.
I got all the bits and pieces of laces, trims, buttons and etc.'s  I might want to use and put them all together to play with SEE how they looked.
Here is the post I did on that grouping.  Mind you, I did not use everthing I started with, and added other things to what I originally had picked.

Using the freezer paper method of printing on plain muslin (found directions on Pinterest), I printed out sections of the Bible verse I wanted to use, then cut them into the size I wanted.

The background fabric I used was a fleecy pink piece from Walmart, and I covered it with a gauzy piece of patterned white organza that I found from an Etsy shop.

As I laid out the verse on the background pieces, I started to cut other fabrics to go behind the patches until I had them like I wanted them.

At this point I decided that these patches of words needed a darker pink background, so I cut pieces of the darkest pink fabric to put under each word or phrase to unify the whole piece.  After sewing each patch together with dark mauve thread (using the machine), I took each piece and sat down to start the really fun part!!  A few containers loaded with laces, trims, buttons, pearls, etc. and some light pink thread to attach them with.  Each patch got special attention and details that differed from all the others.  I had enough lace trims to use a unique one for each patch!  But the colors unify the whole.

After a few evenings of sewing the doodads and goodies to the patches, it was time to pin them on the base piece.  Here is where I realized that I should probably have waited to cut the base fabrics until I could determine the arrangement.  But it all worked out because it fit nicely and still had room for the OTHER laces and trims and appliques I wanted to use.

Laying them loosely on the background, moving things here and there, rechecking the order of the words (And how to spell Philippians and make a corrected piece!), I began to pin things down.

I wanted to make sure of the whole thing, so I left it for the night.  It was amazing what sunshine and another day did for me.  I was looking at it again with some ideas for a few changes, but it stayed primarily the way I had left it.  After finishing the pinning of each object, I began the sewing and tacking.
I brought my jars of pearl buttons, a dish full of trims and other pieces to my chair where I was sewing. And I didn't drop a single button between the cushion of the recliner!!
Using the light pink thread, I started at the bottom of the piece and hand sewed (tacked) each row of lace or patches to the foundation piece. I started at the bottom so I wouldn't have pins sticking me while I worked.
This is a fun part too, as I get to touch and play with each of the laces and trims, add a button or pearl here or there as I go, and before too long, it was nearing completion!
All I had left to do was to hang it on a hanger of some type.

I found a ruled piece of wood from my Birthmother's sewing items that looked like it was a hem measuring device without the stand.  PERFECT!!
After sewing quick loops to the top of the collage piece it was ready to hang.
And here you have it!
You can see the post of this collage finish on my previous post.

I already have another one in mind!!!
I'm picking out the pieces for it now!!
But in the meantime, how about a GIVEAWAY???
I put aside pieces and snippets of some of the laces that I used for this current collage so that I could pack it up and send it to someone that wanted to play with some pretty laces and trims!!
All you have to do to be entered in this giveaway is to leave a comment telling me what you might do with the contents of the bag!  Simple and easy!
The giveaway will end on Tuesday night April 2nd at midnight, just six days from now so I can pick a winner next week.  Here is a quick picture of what is included in the goodie bag! Dish not included!

I have more to add, and will do so during this week.  Be sure I have your email address when you leave your comment, either include it with your comment or make sure your correct email is on your profile.

Pearls and Lace Thursday #128 Finished, Think on These Things Fabric and Lace Collage

Fabric and Lace Collage
Think on These Things
Pink and Cream with Pearls and Lace

I have had the idea for this collage in my head now for months and months.  I even shared the idea with my friend Wilma and she has encouraged me greatly to do this piece.  Beverly, I thought of you too while I was working on this...pinks and laces....
And yes, Melanie, I was up at 2 in the morning working on this!!
I hope you will be blessed by the Bible verse that I used for it.  Each one of the things listed are things to think on...

Using the laces, trims, appliques, fabrics, pearl and rhinestone buttons I love to embellish this collage made for a number of evenings of fun.  Each patch with the word or phrase on it was made first, then embellished.
Then the whole was put together and sewn down to the foundation fabrics.
Next week I will do a post about the construction of this collage so that if you'd like to make one you can get some ideas.

My husband helped me hang it on a ruled wooden piece that used to be a hem measuring device.
The only parts of lace that I made myself were the crocheted roses.  The laces and embellishments are all pieces I've hoarded and collected over the past few years.
I'd like to thank each of the women who have inspired me by their collage talents over the past months.  I've pinned HUNDREDS of collage pics on my Pinterest Board labeled Fabric and Lace Collage, and just can't seem to get enough.  To each one of you who have shared your lovely talents with the world, a huge thank you and a huge hug!!

Do you have something you'd like to share with us for Pearls and Lace Thursday?

Pearls and Lace Thursday Grand Haul of Lace and a New Collage

You know I just can't say NO.
They're not potato chips, nor cookies, nor are they some kind of clothing on sale.
They're LACES!!!
And these are the newest haul.

I've been busy busy busy this last week.  I've been making a huge project...
A fabric and lace collage with a Bible Verse on it:
Philippians 4:8-9
Finally brethren, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are of good report, if ther be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

I have only used the phrase "whatsoever things are" one time to save the space, but the meaning is still the same.  I have had this project in my head for AGES!  Even before I traded the craft room and the guest room back in December and January.  I used my very favorite color combination, pink and cream.
Below is the picture that shows where I am right now:  SEWING!!  BY HAND!  Each element on the word patches has been sewn on already, now I'm sewing the patches and the laces and trims all down to the foundation piece.
I have more pictures that I will share next week, and hopefully the whole collage will be finished by then!!

(by the way, I DID correct the spelling of Philippians so it would be right!!)

It's been a labor of love.  This is one of my husband's favorite verses.

Well, it's time for Pearls and Lace Thursday!!!
Be sure and join the party by clicking on the link below and adding the url code from your post so we can all have a look at your pretties!!
Hugs to each of you who joined me last week!  I have to say, you all inspire me so much!!

Blessings,
Doni

Pearls and Lace Thursday #126 Creamy Pearls and Lace

If you've visited my blog any before, you know how much I love Pearls and Lace...
Well, my favorite theme is what I'd like to share with you today.
The latest finds from Etsy, Ebay, and Estate Sales!
We reached the low 80's today, and expect garage sales and yard sales will be plentiful soon...
I just hope I can wait!

One of my favorite things to do is to spread out the new pieces of laces and linens, pearls and buttons that I've collected, and display them in all their beauty.  I have used a foam board with old dictionary pages glued (with modge podge!) to it to make a vintage background.

The eyelet pieces above are aged to perfection...the staining only making them more beautiful and appealing to me.
I love the creaminess of the colors, variations of whites that make my heart happy!

Mother of Pearl buttons in an old mayonaise jar...

I scored a few pearl necklaces at an estate sale last Friday....Could you hear me singing?!!

I love the way a bit of rusty goodness gives these pieces the aged quality I desire so much.
They just look loved to me.

I am just delighted with these goodies.  After a week of being dejected because an estate sale opened early (you know who you are!!), and the big tray of pearl necklaces was already taken (you know who you are too!!), I was so hopeful that this next week would be a good one.  I was so excited to find that the sale was starting at the time posted!!  I didn't mind standing in line and it was so worth it!
Now realize, not all the sales I find have goodies, sometimes nothing.
And, the laces are all from either ebay or etsy shops.  But there's just something about the hunt, the find, and the excitement of owning something beautiful that I can share with you!!

I have some exciting news!!
Some of my previous posts have been featured!!
The Tray of Pearls post was featured at Adorned From Above,
And last week's post Pink and Cream Collage Inspiration is being featured by Jenn at
Just Put the Pan on the Table.  Many thanks to each of you for making my week!!

We had a great turn out last week and lots of pretties to ooohhh and aaaahhhhh over!
Thanks to each of you who participate!  I can't wait to see what y'all are doing this week!
