Pearls and Lace Thursday #134 Pink and Yellow Rose Inspiration

A few years ago my husband brought me a dozen roses....
IN POTS!!
A Rose bush in each pot!
SO...I have a dozen roses in my garden!!
The first bush to bloom this spring is this lovely pink and yellow variety (and no...I don't know the name).

And that's where inspiration hit.  I had an old sewing box that had those colors, some trims, some other things, and this is what I came up with.

I shared last week my thread and lace cards and promised to show you my violin shaped ones this week.  They ARE violin shaped, but I'm not thrilled with the way they turned out....maybe they should be larger...

The yellowed pearls seem to blend nicely with the other shades of yellows...

Below is one of two lace medallions I recently purchased.  I think it's incredible!

These deep red roses are called Sooner roses and their fragrance is so big and intoxicating...wherever we are in the garden, we can usually catch a whif of this lovely.

Do you have roses in your garden?  The freshness of a rose seems to take me to a place where old meets new...where nostalgia and present day come together.  The rose was a huge part of our ancestry and women (and men) all love roses and have taken them across the world.  Our own country was populated with rose cuttings lovingly and carefully kept during the expansions that covered wagons carried over the hills and plains.  I can only imagine how carefully they were maintained and how many women smiled when first buds appeared after a treacherous journey to a new and unbroken land was finished.
Whenever you see a wild rose growing along a highway or country road, smile and enjoy.  Perhaps it was planted by one of our ancestors journeying to a new home and hope.

It's time for Pearls and Lace Thursday!!
And I'd love to welcome each of my newest followers!  It's always so fun to make new friends!
Thanks too to you lovely ladies who joined last week's party, and for your beautiful and sweet comments!

Hi Doni,

Your photos are so pretty. Very inspiring! My husband gave me a dozen rose bushes, a few years ago, too. They are tea roses in a variety of colours and we planted them in a rose garden. They are my absolute favourite flowers:-)

Thank you for hosting - I don't have any crafts, this week, but I do have some flowers!

God bless:-)

Awww how sweet that you have 12 rose bushes from you hubby in the garden! It is the strangest thing but all I have been able to really grow here in Texas beside my lemon tree are roses bushes. They seem to flourish and I hardly have to do any thing other than trim them back and cut the old ones off for new ones. I have had much success with mine. They make me feel the same as yours do Doni. My son gave me 3 potted roses and they sit proudly in the front of my home. I always so enjoy my visits here and thank you for the scriptures, I needed those this week. Hugs, Beverly

Your roses are just delightful! Love the yellow and pink combination. My roses are suffering a bit this year, only half of them turn out pretty, the rest are brown before they even bloom...black spot has invaded I think...a trip to the nursery is in my future to see what I need to do to nurse them back to health. And they are knockout roses too! Supposed to be resistant...oh well... Thanks for sharing your lovliness of the week! Catherine

I love old fashioned heirloom roses and wild roses.

The part of Nevada I live in was first settled by a group of Mormon pioneers. There are lovely yellow roses that grow wild here. They're called Mormon Roses and are said to have been brought from home and planted by the Mormon ladies. The church recalled the group, but their roses remained to flourish.

My favorite rose growing in my own garden is a palest of pinks cabbage rose. The petals are densely packed and it has a lovely perfume.

Your roses and vintage goodies are so pretty. Thank you for sharing Doni!

Hello Doni, I have so missed you while I have been busy setting up my new business !
Your blog is one of my very favourites that I always visit.
I have just read this post and I think that your husband was so invetive and thoughtful giving you those dozen potted roses. That is so romantic and his gift will always keep giving each time another rose blooms !
Yes I have roses in my garden. I have a pale pink iceberg rose called 'Seduction', a few rambling climbing roses that are almost ready to be pulled up and replaced and I have a couple of David Austins too. Roses are the bones of my garden. I would love to see your garden,it sounds beautiful.
Sending you hugs and thoughts and as ever friendship xo

Doni, I love your gorgeous roses! Last year my hubby made me a rose garden. I had picked up some metal fence pieces and he cemented them in a corner area of my garden. My five children each gave me a rose bush for Mother's Day. I bought 6 or 7 more to fill it in. We had a hard winter and a couple of them are struggling. Some look fine and I can't wait for that first bloom. Happy to be joining your party today. I have a link party, Share Your Cup Thursday. It's about sharing what makes you happy. Would love if you linked up sometime!
hugs,
Jann

Doni,
I have five miniature rose bushes that have all been gifts from my children or friends. Those are the ones that seem to stay alive for me! I love cutting the roses off before they bloom to dry them and use them in projcts or just a rose pot pourri. I love your thread/lace cards, even the violins! what a lovely way to keep things organized and stored!
Hearts to you!
Betsy

Your roses are so lovely, and the yellow ones are such a unique color. I just bought some yellow roses today to brighten up the house a bit. Yes, I do have a rose bush that is filled with pink roses.

I hope you are enjoying the spring days so far.

Doni, your roses are lovely and truly inspirations. Ooo...all the fabulously gorgeous odds and ends of lace and threads, etc. that they inspired to come out to play.

I love all the colors and textures you've displayed here. Quite cheery.
