Pearls and Lace Thursday #82 A Few Finishes

I've shown you my now finished redwork (previous post) of which I thoroughly enjoyed working on.  I decided I was a big girl now and could graduate to a finer sized weave of material, therefore making the aida cloth no longer my favorite.  I feel like a child with a cardboard laceing toy with that aida now!!
But, before my official graduation, I wanted to show you what I finished in January.

I apologize for the terrible photography...more on that at the bottom of this post.
But, also sorry for the wrinkled pieces!  I have a hate/hate relationship with my iron.
I've also included a simple needle keep that I made out of an old bit of quilt.

I am having a problem with my vision it seems....every time I take a picture with my Nikon, I look at it from the screen on the back of the camera.  It looks clear and crisp.  THEN, I go to the computer, tranfer the images, and they look BLURRY!!!
What's the deal???  Is it me?  or could it actually be the Camera?
Maybe it's the editing software.  I don't know, but I'm depressed about it.

Do any of y'all have problems with your camera editing software?  In fact, could you please tell me what software you use?  I have this wonderful camera, a Nikon D5000
It's like putting a sports car into the hands of a 6 year old I know, but still, shouldn't I be able to take some good photos by now?  I mean, I've had it for over a year!!
I don't know how to use it to its full potential, but at least sometimes I get a few good shots.
What really makes my day go south though is when I 'think' I've taken some good photos and then I get to my computer.
I've been using an old software edition from my old Kodak easyshare camera.  It was fine.  But when I went to try to use the Nikon software that came with that camera, I just couldn't figure out the editing.  No where does it let me crop, adjustments of photos are few, and I'm at a loss as to what to do.
So, my question to you is, what software is the least expensive, and the easiest to use???
I went to the office supply store near us (45 minutes away!), and Photoshop software made me loose my appetite.  Here I was all ready to shell out some big bucks (@50 of them), and lo and behold, they wanted my first born son and my right arm for the LEAST expensive version!!!

When I took the photo of the sampler above, the picture looked clear to me in the screen on the camera back.  I even showed it to my husband to PROVE that I could take a clear picture.
I guess I'm just getting old.  These bifocals are a pain too.  I finally am getting used to wearing them, and I haven't fallen because of them (after a year and a half it's about time I am used to them!), but they are a real pain.
Well, enough of that.  If any of you have any suggestions, I would truly appreciate them!
If you'd like to join me for Pearls and Lace Thursday this week please add the url code of your post to the link below.  I've really had fun doing these, but I'm getting tired people.  I think this might be the last one for a while, so I'd like to thank you all for joining the party and making it so much fun to blog.
I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Blessings, Doni

Love the sweet pieces you have here...that pink button is really cute! If this helps: When my pics are fuzzy, its because I'm a bit shaky or my hands are. This can produce some really fuzzy pic for me. I have the same camera. Hope you have a great day! Luv

As always, loving all the beautiful treasures you make.

As for the photo stuff, I am no expert but I think you can do editing online. Pamela over at playingwithmycamera blog recommend Picasa and I think it is a free online editing. I myself am looking into editing some of my photograph, so am keeping an eye open for recommendations from others. Let me know how you fair. Diane

Love your work! I use Photo Shop Elements, a lot cheaper and the learning curve is a lot easier. You can download a free version for 30 days to see if you like it.

Beautiful work. I know how tedious it is to stitch on linen like this, but the finished product is worth the effort. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work and for hosting each week. ~ Sarah

Oh My Gosh! I just found you on Pinterest and I think I found my double. I love all your vintage stuff! I am looking forward to following your blog. I am a professional photographer, I suggest Photoshop elements also and check your shutter speed setting and the ISO setting. It might all be set to slow. Are you using window light? Feel free to email me questions. smash585@earthlink.net So glad you repinned the vintage book image from my Pinterest!

What pretty things you been making! I hope you get your photography problems figured out. I do know such a simple little thing like holding the button for a bit so the camera will hold the focus and then push the shutter, is a feature I haven't gotten used to on my new camera. When I remember to do this, it works beautifully. Maybe this would work with your camera as well?
Blessings,
Susie

My husband is a professional commercial photographer. Which means, I suppose that I should either be fabulous at photography myself, or too intimidated to shoot! Well, neither is true. I love to take photographs of just about everything, and Carl is very supportive of my efforts. However, I am my own worst critic (probably because I know he can do it SO much better). One thing I do know, is that while I am still a "beginner" by comparison, I have to really get to know my camera well. Don't be afraid of it! Read your manual or whatever information came along with it. And, a tripod can make a big difference. I think your photos are just fine. Cheers!

Hi Doni. I also have the D5000 and I sometimes feel like it's way smarter than I am. =) I took a class at our local camera shop that was specifically for the D5000. Here's what you can do to help with the blurry photo thing:

Just to the right of the viewfinder is the Diopter adjustment control (it's a dial that turns up and down). Use this control to adjust the viewfinder lens to suit your individual vision differences (not everyone’s eyesight is the same). To adjust this, look through the viewfinder, and press the Shutter Release button halfway to focus on something. If what you see in the viewfinder isn’t quite sharp, slide the Diopter adjustment control up or down until everything appears in focus.

Also, if you put your settings on the little running man, that will allow more light into your lens, which will help with the blur in low light.

You have a lovely blog and you're so talented! It's a beautiful place over here. Thank you for visiting and leaving me the sweet comment. The kids are already telling me verses that they are finding on the wall.

Hope your week is wonderful!

Blessings... Polly

Thank you for your visit to my blog and your wonderful comments! I love that you love musicals! I have to thank my Mother for instilling that within me! Your blog is beautiful. I love pearls AND lace!!!! I noticed your questions about your camera. I have a bit of a photography obsession and, while not a professional, think I might be able to shed a little light. Is your camera set to AF (auto focus)? If so, it's very important to do whatever your camera requires to do its auto focus job. Typically, that means depressing your shutter button half way until you hear a beep that indicates the photo is in focus. The pictures on the back of the camera always look lovely because of their small resolution on the screen. When you put them on a larger monitor and the resolution is larger...you see all the defects. Can't tell you how often that happens to ALL of us! I know this is a few weeks after your post - and maybe you've already found a resolution to your woes, but these were my first thoughts. Have a lovely weekend! Annette
