Pearls and Lace Thursday #111 Drawer Number One

I'm starting a bit early, but,
As Promised:  Here's drawer number One

The last few weeks I have shared with you some pictures of the laces I keep in my vintage sewing boxes.  You can scroll down to the previous posts to view them.  This week, I am unrolling the laces and getting close ups of them.  Please forgive any blurred images or upsidedown laces!

These are all some of my favorites.  From simple trim, to cuffs, to yokes, each piece is so delicate and full of detail that I can seriously stare at them for long periods of time, just imagining the intricate stitches being made ages ago. 

The hues of whitest white to dark ecru...so easy on the eyes!

Pearls and Lace Thursday #110 Lace, Lovely Lace!

Lace, Lovely Lace!

I will never tire of its beauty, its lovliness, its age-old shades of whites and creams.

The textures and patterns are a joy to behold.

Touching it and playing with it makes me feel like a child with a favorite toy!

And a room full of 'toys' is what I'm sharing again today.

I wonder how many hours of work these drawers of lace would account for?  I wonder how many people worked on them, who they were, what kind of lives they lived.  Were these pieces of lace used for clothing or bedding?  Were they kept for a special occasion or daily wear?  What countries around the world do they represent?  Did they see weddings or funerals?

You see, they are treasures to me.  They stand for the hard work and talented hands that created them.

And yet, they speak about a time in our history that was slower in pace.  A time when Family was important, but God was first.

God's handiwork is even more intricate, more vast, and reaches from eternity to eternity.

He knew before He created the universe, the end from the beginning, and He alone controls the enormity of the universe from the largest thing to the smallest.  There are no random molecules!

Aren't we blessed to be able to enjoy such gifts from our Creator??

The women who made these laces took care to follow directions, and they took time to create things of beauty that would last for many years.  God created things of beauty so that we would see them and know of a CREATOR who pays attention to the details.  

The details of our lives are not hidden from Him, and we can know that He is loving and caring in His works in our lives.  Whether we can see His Hand or not, we can know He is there.  It is His Hand who is in control of the most intricate weaving of the most minute details.

When life is difficult, remember the details are no mystery to God. 

His Word is full of the works of His Hands.

I hope you see the beauty of God's Creation this week!

Taking these photos has been SO much fun!  I am going to start pulling out the prettiest pieces and showing off their lovely stitches in my next few posts.  Making a pretty display to photograph is always fun to do.

I certainly hope y'all aren't getting bored with these!!

I'm in love with the colors as they go from light to dark in addition to the intricate threadwork. 

I know...I'm a goof.  Can't help it.  I just love beauty!

Little Boy Blue

His name is Elroy...for the moment.

He's a HOOT!

And he's the only one left in this litter.

Poor baby...

He's the runt of the litter.  But don't let that fool you!  He is such a ham!

My two sons were here this weekend (college age +), and my youngest helped me take pictures of this litter of puppies to update for their new owners.  Of the six puppies in this litter, all have been spoken for except little boy blue here.

"Elroy" was in fine form.  He only stood still ONE TIME!  And of course the camera was out of focus at that moment.  But I eventually got enough photos that I could work with.

One picture that did NOT make the final cut is the one below.

My son was swirling his hand above the pup's head, whistling and trying to get his attention....

And Elroy jumped and twisted and was a whirling dirvish!

We laughed so hard!!  I just HAD to share this picture with you doxie lovers.

I know...it's rough to look at being out of focus, but it perfectly portrays his movements.

As I said.  He's a HOOT!

Pearls and Lace Thursday 109 Drawers of Lace

As promised, here are the laces in organized drawers from my collection of fabric covered sewing boxes.

The boxes are displayed on shelves in my craft room (click on the picture of my craft room on the sidebar to see them all), and are one of the first things you see when you enter the room.  It has taken me a looooong time to collect them, but I'm a real fan of the used and worn fabrics from way back when. 

The beauty of the laces in the drawers though, well, I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

I think this photo shoot has been one of my top faves to put together.  Perhaps it's because of the subject matter...Laces, Pearls, Buttons, Silk Ribbon, and Vintage Thread Spools...

Next week I will be sharing another vignette I staged of these same drawers, just a simpler grouping.
