Pearls and Lace Thursday #87 Violin and Lace

Violin and Monogrammed Lace
I began violin lessons in the 2nd grade at my elementary school in Dallas.

My teacher was wonderful.  A lovely lady who inspired and taught with a love for music and children that has been a legacy that has lasted ever since.  Clumsy at first, with lots and lots of squeaking and gritted teeth, the years of my lessons and practice have made me into a violinist.  I don't play for anything much these days (I'm now almost 50), but for church on Sundays.  I love playing.  It's so much a part of me now that I'd have to say it was like one of my best friends.
If ever the day comes when I can no longer play, I will feel as if I've lost a friend of many years.

I remember how many hours and hours of practice went into my elementary, jr. high, and high school years...playing with the high school orchestra was my favorite class time.

College found me majoring in music, elementary ed., and graduating with a degree in it.
What I hated most though was practicing!  Always trying to get something perfect.
Well, today, I practice, but it's much more enjoyable to me.

My love for delicate lace and my love for my instrument are going to blend today in what I hope will be a beautiful post.

The monogrammed lace piece I'm featuring today is a recent purchase from etsy.  Oh how I love etsy!
And the laces I've found are lovely.  This one is a gorgeous piece, and large too.  I could just see it against the wood on my violin as soon as I saw it on the internet!!  So I just HAD to have it!
In the weeks to come I will be showing you some more lovely vintage lace pieces that are in my collection so be sure and check back!  I'll also be showing you some background boards that I've begun to work on, the first one is pictured behind my violin...just a sticky foamboard with old hymn pages stuck on it!

White Wednesday at Faded Charm Cottage has always been one of my favorite parties.  One of the first I ever joined.  But because my past posts have been so colorful....well...I've not participated.
So this week, I'm going to join the party, but I'm also going to make this post my own Pearls and Lace Thursday party post!  It's early, yes, but I wanted it to be open all week for other party joining too!
One in particular is at Knick of Time with Angie!  Be sure and check out her blog!
Lots of my favorite parties are listed on the sidebar, so be sure and have a look at them too!  Each week just makes me excited as I see what y'all have to share.
Thank you so much my sweet friends for following and commenting!  I'm overjoyed with your lovely comments and y'all are just the greatest!
Hope you enjoy the party, and please link your own post to the link below!
May you each have a lovely week,
Doni

Pearls and Lace Thursday #86 Vintage Threads #1

I know...I've already posted about thread.  A LOT!
But there's just something about them.
Their colors, their sheen, the shape of the spools and cards.
The items made by them and the potential for lovely hand-made items.
They just make me happy to look at!
What do you think?
And today is the day for Pearls and Lace Thursday link party!!  Get your post ready to share with us!

OK...the picture above this and the picture below this are the exact same picture...the only difference being that the one above was NOT resized, and the one below WAS.
Question:  Do you resize your pictures?  And if you do, does it make a difference on your blog post as to the
clarity?  It took twenty minutes for blogger to upload the picture above, and about five seconds to upload the picture below.
PLEASE let me know what you do!!

The rest of the pictures I will share today are resized using a version of free ware called PIXresizer
that I uploaded from the web.
I just don't have the time to sit here and let them upload in their full sizes.  Maybe I'm just doing it wrong!!!

Anyway...here are a few more shots of my vintage threads.  I find them full of charm.

Is anyone else having problems with Blogger today???  It seems really sluggish even on the resized pics now!
OK...at least I got them posted!!!
Join me for Pearls and Lace Thursday!!!
Add your url code for your post to the link below.
I'm going to be joining in on a few parties too, so be sure and look at the list of my favorite parties in my sidebar and see all the pretties this week.

Pearls and Lace Thursday #85 Condolyn, Kelly, and John Deere

So, what do Condolyn, Kelly, and John Deere all have in common??
They're all GREEN!
My mother's name (Condolyn) came from the color green her mother loved.
Kelly, John Deere, Mint, Olive, Granny Smith, Emerald,
all are names of Greens!
Do you know of some I've missed?  Add them to the list!
Hope you enjoy my greens, all to celebrate the 17th!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
And it's Pearls and Lace Thursday...so get your post ready to link below!

Pearls and Lace Thursday #84 Colorful Threads

Oh how I love Thread!
And the color PURPLE!!!
And buttons, and lace, and fabric covered boxes.....
and the list continues...believe me!
But a new love???
The vintage thread cards!
I have recently found a few of the thread cards showing some old thread values, and they are so sweet!

Sometimes I see something that I wouldn't have given consideration to years ago, and it just seems to say to me, "I belong to you!!!"  Does that ever happen to you?  I mean, I'm just minding my own business, flitting through pages on Etsy or Ebay, just browsing, and all of a sudden, "THERE IT IS!!!"  The item(s) I'd been looking for all of my life!!!
I'm awful.  Really.  If it's pretty I like it...plain and simple!!
And if it's colorful??  All the better!

I'm always looking for sewing items that catch my eye, as well as Christian oriented items like these Scripture cards and Sunday School Cards!  I think these are from the thirties!

The colors are wonderful, even after all these years.  I can tell they were lovingly kept, and probably read and studied daily while the child was in Sunday School.  It's too bad that today the lesson papers are not treasured as these little colorful cards of artwork were.  Maybe there's a lesson in that???

I will be joining in some of the parties I love listed on the sidebar of this blog.  Please be sure and check them out.  They are a feast for the beauty-loving eye!!

It's time for Pearls and Lace Thursday!!!  The link is below for you to add the url code from your own post to share with us.  I've very much enjoyed seeing the lovelies you've all been sharing with us!  I can't get over how creative you are!  Where do y'all come up with all those great ideas???  And your homes are so sweet.  I love how y'all just invite us right in and give us a glimpse of your lovely rooms!
Hope you all have a wonderful week!
Blessings,
Doni
